FOREIGN Minister Miroslav Lajčák sent his condolences via telegram to his Czech counterpart Lubomír Zaorálek over the death of four Czech soldiers in Afghanistan on July 8.
"Along with the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic is fighting against terrorism in Afghanistan as part of ISAF operation and paving the way for peace and stability in the country,” the TASR newswire quoted from the telegram. “Despite this tragic event, continuing the involvement of our countries in building a stable and democratic Afghanistan is justified.”
Another letter of condolence was sent by President Andrej Kiska to his Czech counterpart Miloš Zeman. Kiska will meet Zeman in person during his first official bilateral visit which he pays to the Czech Republic on July 9.
At least 16 people, including Czech soldiers, ten Afghan civilians and two policemen died in the suicide attack that occurred close to the Afghan base Bagram early on July 8 in the province of Parvan. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
