Slovakia's Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák is heading the Slovak delegation to a session of the General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday, March 16 and 17, ministry spokesman Ján Škoda told the TASR newswire on March 15. One of the main items on the agenda is preparation for an upcoming meeting of the European Council which will be held in Brussels on March 19 and 20, focusing on the current economic crisis.
The GAERC meeting will also see discussions on the European Economic Recovery Plan, climate change and energy policy. Regarding external relations, the officials will focus on the project of the Eastern partnership, Belarus and the Western Balkans, especially in terms of the future mandate of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The discussions will also revolve around preparations for an informal summit between the EU and the US which will take place in Prague and will be attended by the President of the US, Barack Obama. TASR
