The fight against extremism, racism, chauvinism and neo-Nazism is very important for the Slovak government, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák said at a meeting with representatives of Jewish organisations in New York on Wednesday, September 23, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting, the TASR newswire reported. He also informed them about Slovakia's activities regarding the spreading of truth about the holocaust and care for Holocaust Memorials in Slovakia.
Lajčák told TASR that Slovakia is especially concerned about the import of extremism from abroad, as Slovakia has had this experience several times in recent months. He also noted that Slovakia will soon commemorate the 20th anniversary of the democratic changes in the country. In this respect he said that Slovakia presents a success story and that it wants to show that it's a reliable, trustworthy and responsible partner. He asked representatives of the American Jewish Congress, the World Jewish Congress and the B'nai B'rith organisation to spread information about this success story in the U.S.
Lajčák participated on Wednesday, September 23, in the opening of the 64th UN General Assembly in New York. He heads the Slovak delegation this year and will give a speech in the Assembly on Saturday on behalf of the country.
On Tuesday, September 22, before the opening meeting, he had dinner with foreign affairs ministers of EU member countries and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. On Wednesday, apart from the UN Assembly opening meeting, he had bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Lichtenstein, St. Lucia, Kazakhstan and others, as well as with the UN Assembly President Ali Abdussalam Treki.
