Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajčák is visiting the Holy See on Tuesday and Wednesday, Novmeber 13 and 14. In Vatican, he will meet with Pope Benedict XVI, the Foreign Ministry informed the SITA newswire.
The visit of Minister Lajčák is taking place on the occasion of the upcoming 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Saints Cyril and Methodius to Slovakia and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Slovak Republic and the Holy See. This will be the first visit by a member of the new Slovak government to the Vatican since it took office in March. This is a reciprocal visit following the official visit of the Secretary for Relations with States, Dominique Mamberti, to Slovakia in May 2009.
At the Vatican, Minister Lajčák will meet with Pope Benedict XVI and will hold talks with Dominique Mamberti. Lajčák will deliver a lecture at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas on the Future of the European Union - Prospect of the European Project, and meet with Slovak students at the Pontifical College of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Rome, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding next year.
