SLOVAKIA is watching the situation in Ukraine very closely, Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák said in Tbilisi, Georgia, on April 7 in response to the latest developments in the eastern part of Ukraine, the TASR newswire reported.
According to the Slovak official, the current developments in the cities of Donetsk, Lugansk and Kharkiv could potentially trigger a serious security crisis.
"That is why we're urging all those concerned to act responsibly and show utmost restraint, as experience has shown that it's much easier to provoke a crisis than to fight its repercussions then," said Lajčák, as quoted by TASR.
The foreign minister is currently on an official visit to Georgia, where he arrived from Ukraine. He had opened an honorary consulate of Slovakia in the Ukrainian city of Odessa and met Odessa regional state administration chair Volodymyr Nemyrovsky on April 7.
Pro-Russian demonstrators have stormed a regional government building in Donetsk and declared their region independent from Kiev.
