Foreign Ministry: Slovakia respects Georgia's sovereignty

Slovakia respects and supports Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity according to its internationally recognized borders, and all actions that threaten these principles are unacceptable, said Slovakia's Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement provided to the media by its spokesman Ján Škoda. "The Slovak Republic rejects and will reject the use of force by anyone in solving problems and open issues, including disputes over South Ossetia and Abkhazia," the statement said.

Slovakia will support the intermediated effort of France's EU Presidency in solving the conflict in Georgia. With regard to the EU's Council for General Affairs and Foreign Relations’ Wednesday session, Slovakia will support sending an EU peace mission to Georgia. Slovakia has provided humanitarian aid to Georgia amounting to Sk5.6 million (€185,885) in order to solve the humanitarian crisis in the country. This aid is intended for all the people of Georgia affected by the armed conflict, including refugees from South Ossetia. SITA
