SLOVAKIA’s active foreign trade balance stood at €502.7 million in June. Total exports from Slovakia increased by 2.5 percent year-on-year to €5.379 billion, while total imports rose by 0.5 percent y/y to €4.877 billion, the Statistics Office reported on September 8.
When the entire first half of the year is considered, the surplus reached €2.539 billion, which is €235.3 million less than the figure recorded over the first six months of 2013. Overall exports rose by 2.6 percent on an annual basis to €32.477 billion. Imports were up 3.7 percent y/y to reach €29.938 billion, the TASR newswire reported.
Regarding the most important business partners of Slovakia, increases in exports in the first half of 2014 were recorded in annual terms with Germany (by 8.2 percent), France (3.4 percent), the United Kingdom (19.9 percent), Italy (1 percent), the Netherlands (11.5 percent), Spain (15.9 percent) and the US (20.3 percent). Exports were down when it came to the Czech Republic (by 3 percent), Poland (1.8 percent), Austria (5.1 percent), Hungary (6.2 percent) and Russia (7 percent).
Imports in the same period in yearly terms increased in relation to the Czech Republic (by 4.1 percent), China (3.7 percent), Poland (2.4 percent), Hungary (8.6 percent), Italy (0.2 percent), France (5.5 percent), and Austria (2.1 percent). The opposite trend was seen in case of Germany (down 4.8 percent), Russia (1.1 percent), and South Korea (7.8 percent), according to TASR.
