Elena Kohútiková, a former central bank (NBS) vice-governor and the current deputy general director of Všeobecná Úverová Banka (VÚB), may become the next finance minister, the TASR newswire reported on Wednesday, March 14.
Kohútiková told TASR that she had not received an official offer yet, so was not willing to speculate about any appointment. She has worked in the banking sector since 1990. When the NBS was set up in 1993, she became the top manager of its economic section. During her time at the NBS, she was responsible for the adoption of the euro in 2009. She represented the NBS at the European Commission on the Economic Financial Policy Committee, and was a member of the International Relations Committee of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the OECD Committee for Economic Policy, among other roles.
Smer MP Peter Pellegrini is a possible candidate for the post of transport minister, TASR reported separately. Pellegrini too refused to comment on any personnel issues. Before his election to parliament in 2010, he served as an assistant to the transport minister between 2006 and 2010. Before that, in 2004-06, he sat on the supervisory board of the Regional Development Agency of Banská Bystrica Region.
