THE FORMER vice president of Slovakia’s Police Corps, Stanislav Jankovič, might end up in court on a charge of abuse of power after he allegedly returned a driving licence to a businessman who had been stripped of it for committing a driving offence, the Sme daily reported.
Businessman Ján Božík was caught driving 190 kilometres per hour on the R1 dual carriageway in June 2010. Police officers fined him €400 and when he refused to pay the fine his driving licence was confiscated. Božík then allegedly called Jankovič, who arrived at the police station in Žiar nad Hronom, and asked that the driving licence be returned to the businessman and that the offence be deleted from the public record.
