Former Slovak president Michal Kováč has been hospitalised at the Military Hospital in Bratislava on Monday, July 12, due to nausea and dizziness. Kováč confirmed for the TASR newswire that he was to stay in hospital until Tuesday for further tests.
“The regional operation centre in Bratislava received a distress call from Štúrova Street shortly before 11 a.m., with the patient being reported to be near collapse,” the Operation Centre’s spokesperson, Dominika Sulková, told TASR. An ambulance was dispatched, arriving within eight minutes.
“Paramedics provided first aid to the patient and transported him to the Military Hospital at Kramáre,” said Sulková. The former president was conscious and communicated with the paramedics.
Kováč, 79, told TASR that the Parkinson's disease that he is afflicted with contributed to his collapse. “It's nothing extraordinary, this has happened to me a couple of times before,” he said, adding that the hot weather could also have been a contributing factor.
