The Slovak court turned down a complaint over slander against former head of the Military Intelligence Service (VSS) Roman Mikulec.

Back in July 2011, Mikulec sent a letter to the ministries claiming that it would be risky to hire a former VSS employee identified as M.D. to a post which needs a security clearance. With such a step, he violated M.D.’s rights, according to the plaintiff.

The court, however, ruled that the accusation did not prove to be true. The verdict is not yet effective, the Sme daily wrote on January 24. When Mikulec was appointed to lead the VSS, he obtained information that M.D. took some confidential documents related to his predecessor from the safe. During the security clearance he admitted he had the documents. Subsequently, M.D. withdrew his agreement to work with confidential documents and was dismissed. This meant he avoided the disciplinary proceeding.

Mikulec still faces accusations regarding the VSS report delivered to Sme which describes dubious practices of two former military intelligence heads. He faces charges for leaking confidential information.
