ABOUT 40 percent of applicants for entry into the professional Slovak Army were rejected during the selection process in 2005, the Defence Ministry reported on March 18.
According to the SITA news agency, the most frequent reasons for rejection were failing psychological and physical fitness tests.
The Slovak Army recruited 1,500 new soldiers last year.
This year the army has already received 1,750 job applications. The army is looking for truck drivers, mechanics, electricians, medical staff, chemists, and soldiers to serve in the guard of honour. Among its officer positions, the army seeks doctors, psychologists, and lawyers.
As of January 1, 2006, Slovakia has a fully professional army with about 20,000 soldiers.
