Free trade zone to end

The cabinet has agreed to change the terms of a contract between Slovakia and the Czech Republic on a customs union, or free trade zone, created between the two nations before they separated in 1993. The contract will henceforth become void if either of the countries enters the European Union, which they are both expected to do in 2004.
