EIGHT organisations from six European countries have joined up to launch a website for learning German, supported financially by the European Commission. The website, www.deutsch.info, will enable people who speak several different European languages, including Slovak, to learn German. It will be launched as of the beginning of 2013, the TASR newswire reported in July.
“People know that German can mean for them a decisive advantage at the onset of their career,” Anne Pritchard-Smith, the director of the Österreich Institut in Slovakia, one of the organisations involved in the project, told TASR.
“The project focuses on German, which has a vital economic importance and significant trading partners. Within EU countries, there is significant demand for learning and teaching the language,” the website informs.
The goal of the project is to develop a free online portal for learning the German language (A1, A2 and B1 levels, with the latter focusing on situations relevant to migrants) as well as about German and Austrian culture. It will also provide helpful information about practical issues when working and living there.
It will have multimedia content with interactive and engaging exercises, reading materials, audio and video tools, and competitions, and will be developed in nine languages: Czech, English, Croatian, Italian, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian and Turkish.
The project also aims to provide information about administrative and practical issues in Austria and Germany, as well as offering an array of helpful sample documents.
