OPPOSITION SDKÚ MP and Bratislava Region president Pavol Frešo resigned from the party's slate for the parliamentary elections over voting fraud in the party’s primaries in Bratislava, the TASR newswire reported.
Frešo, who had featured seventh on the list, took political responsibility for the manipulation of votes in a recent party primary in the Bratislava Staré Mesto borough, where he is chairman of the local party association. National party chair Mikuláš Dzurinda reported that two signatures in Staré Mesto were forged in the primary election on February 27, and that therefore voting in the borough was being annulled, resulting in minor corrections in the final SDKÚ slate.
Vice-chair Lucia Žitňanská praised Frešo for the gesture, adding that he certainly was not involved in the fraud, but had taken political responsibility for it.
