Frešo on top in regional election polling

TWO polls carried out in mid October show that the first round in regional elections in Bratislava Region, scheduled to take place on November 9, would be won by current governor of the region, Pavol Frešo of the Slovak Christian and Democratic Union (SDKÚ). He would be followed by Monika Flašíková-Beňová of Smer and Daniel Krajcer of New Majority-Agreement (NOVA) movement.

In the telephone poll conducted by Focus between October 14 and 20 on a sample of 427 respondents, Frešo would garner support from 43.8 percent of voters. Flašíková-Beňová would finish second with 35.1 percent, followed by Krajcer with 10.1 percent of the vote, the SITA newswire reported.

Oskar Dobrovodský would receive 4 percent, and Jaroslav Paška of the Slovak National Party (SNS) 2.6 percent of the vote.

The MVK poll, carried out on October 17-22 on a sample of 573 respondents, shows support for Frešo to stand at 33.2 percent. Flašíková-Beňová would finish second, supported by 29.7 percent of respondents, followed by Krajcer with 24.6 percent, Paška with 4.6 percent and Dobrovodský with 3 percent, the TASR newswire wrote.

The MVK poll also showed that 25.8 percent of the voters would attend the election, according to TASR.
