PETER Gabura, the controversial treasurer of the Christian Democrats party of the ruling coalition, has been put forward by a regional party board as its candidate for elections in September 2002, meaning he could win a seat in parliament.
The businessman, who has been investigated by police for his financing of the party and his acquisition of the party headquarters building in the capital, says "I can do a lot of good".
His candidacy has been challenged by senior Christian Democrat officials such as party vice-chairman Daniel Lipšic, who says he will try to convince the party council not to allow Gabura to run.
