RECORD high gas prices on the world markets have caused the best selling Natural 95 oil in Slovakia break the psychological important Sk40 (€1.03) per litre barrier, the daily Pravda reported.
Drivers filling up at the Shell gas station in Červeník on the road from Bratislava to Trenčín yesterday paid a record Sk40.40 (€1.04) per litre for Natural 95. Other gas stations are still hesitating to charge more than Sk40 per litre fearing that drivers might be put off by the high price.
However, oil refinery Slovnaft yesterday increased its petrol and diesel prices - petrol went up by Sk0.60 and diesel by Sk0.40 per litre on average.
Slovnaft spokeswoman Kristína Félová said that the main reason for the price hike is the sharp growth in crude oil prices.
"The price of Brent crude oil exceeded $63 per barrel representing a 50 percent increase year-on-year," Félová told the SITA news agency.
