President Ivan Gašparovič has asked the lead investigator in the Gorilla case for additional information to back his request to release the current director of the SIS intelligence agency, Karol Mitrík, from his oath of secrecy, the SITA newswire reported.
“The [original] request did not contain any legitimate purpose, extent or an expiry date for the release from the pledge of secrecy according to the generally valid legislation, the Penal Code and the law on protecting confidential information,” said the president’s spokesperson, Marek Trubač, as quoted by SITA.
He added that as soon as the president receives a letter containing the additional information, he will decide whether Mitrík should talk about the case, described in the so-called Gorilla file, which purports to describe wiretapped conversations in 2005-6 between senior politicians and officials and representatives of the Penta financial group.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Iveta Radičová said that she had already received a letter from the SIS that provided answers to all her questions pertaining to Gorilla. She said that she was satisfied with the answers, the TASR newswire reported.
“I received answers to all 12 questions, and as they were confidential, that is everything I can tell you,” she said, as quoted by TASR, adding that only Mitrík can let her speak about the letter in more detail.
