President Ivan Gašparovič on July 30 handed over official credentials to two newly-appointed Slovak ambassadors - Ladislav Straka, who will serve in South Africa, and Marián Záhora, who is heading for Libya, the President's Office told the TASR newswire.
Speaking to the two new ambassadors, Gašparovič pointed out the importance of South Africa in terms of the potential integration of the whole African continent, and highlighted the economic dimensions of Slovakia's ties with the country. The newly-appointed diplomats have the duty to "seek all good relations that can be developed further," added Gašparovič.
As regards the not-so-intensive relations between Bratislava and Tripoli, the head of state noted that relations with countries such as Libya are always determined by the rules of the European Union, and this will also be reflected in the activities of the new ambassador.
Both Straka and Záhora thanked the president for his trust and noted the responsibilities that come with the credentials. TASR
