Gašparovič: Increase in teachers' incomes priority of sector's budget

President Ivan Gašparovič said on October 16 that he believed that the priority of Education Ministry's budget was the scheduled increase in the incomes of employees from the education sector, the TASR newswire wrote.

"Teachers deserve higher incomes, because it is up to them to educate the new generation and prepare it for the realities of professional life," Gašparovič said following his meeting with Education Minister Ján Mikolaj.

As of the next year, teachers’ salaries should increase by 7 percent, and overall incomes should be higher by 8.5 percent, Mikolaj said. He also informed the president that the legislation being prepared on technical education, school employees, and investment stimuli for research and development. Mikolaj says he is confident that the president will support the bills. TASR
