PRESIDENT-elect Andrej Kiska met with current President Ivan Gašparovič in Tatranská Javorina in the High Tatra mountains on May 22. The meeting was initiated by Gašparovič and lasted approximately two hours, Kiska’s team informed the TASR newswire. Gašparovič is currently on a business trip to eastern Slovakia.
They discussed practical issues pertaining to the inauguration of the new president, scheduled for June 15. The two also discussed foreign policy issues, such as the summit of presidents of the V4 countries and the German president scheduled to take place in Budapest on June 16.
Kiska requested a meeting with Gašparovič in a letter that he sent on April 7. The incumbent president said that he saw no need to personally address the political issues about which Kiska has been speaking in the media. At the same time, Gašparovič, 73, did not rule out the possibility of meeting with Kiska, 51, informally at some time before his inauguration.
