Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič, in Montenegro for a three-day visit, has met his Montenegrin counterpart Filip Vujanović. They both said that trade and commerce between the two countries has not kept pace with their excellent political relations, the TASR newswire reported.
“We did not manage to increase the level of trade in the past five years, and we cannot be satisfied with its turnover reaching €7 million over the past three years,” said Gašparovič, as quoted by TASR, adding that Slovak investments in Montenegro amount to less than €1 million.
Vujanović views the poor promotion of Montenegro in Slovakia as one of the main reasons for the middling level of economic cooperation.
“We have to be present in Slovakia and present our sincere interest in economic partnerships,” said Vujanovic, as quoted by TASR.
Gašparovič also met the speaker of Montenegro’s parliament, Ranko Krivokapić. They discussed the country’s ambition to join the European Union.
“I would welcome a more intense cooperation between our national parliaments as well as their individual committees,” said Gašparovič, as quoted by the SITA newswire, adding that parliaments play a significant role in the transformation of societies and European integration. Gašparovič also expressed his support for Montenegro’s bid to join NATO.
