General Prosecutor attacks Act on Excise Tax on Tobacco Products

Font size: A - | A +

Slovakia’s General Prosecutor has complained to the Slovak Constitutional Court about some of the provisions stated in the Tobacco Excise Tax Act. He is demanding that they be examined to see if they really comply with the Slovak constitution. At the same time, he has requested that the Constitutional Court suspend the validity of the contested provisions until they arrive at a decision on the issue. Provisions in the law that set stricter penalties for offences were modified by an amendment in 2005, which came into effect in January 2006.
