THE OFFICE of the General Prosecutor is determined to continue in the dispute with Supreme Court President Štefan Harabin and is considering “all legal means to change the valid court ruling in the matter in order to avert consequences of this verdict”, spokeswoman Andrea Predajňová told the TASR newswire.
The Bratislava Regional Court recently has upheld the verdict of the lower court, ordering the prosecutor’s office to pay Harabin €150,000 in damages for a 2008 incident in which it publicly confirmed that it had a 1994 transcript of what appeared to be a friendly telephone conversation between Harabin and convicted Kosovar drug lord Baki Sadiki.
The courts opined that Trnka infringed Harabin’s rights when statements on the matter were made public. The General Prosecutor’s Office is now checking the documents, which might contain the transcript in order to verify it, the Sme daily wrote.
Daniel Lipšic, chair of the New Majority-Agreement (NOVA) movement and former interior ministry, however says that Trnka has already confirmed the existence of the transcripts, adding that the only ones who deny it are Harabin and Sadiki, the SITA newswire reported.
