AT A time when the extending Schengen zone erases borders in Europe, the Economic University in Bratislava is holding an international conference with the focus on the German language as the language of experts in border regions. Sixty-six European experts will meet on February 7 and 8 on the university premises to discuss teaching and other aspects of the German language. The conference is taking place under the auspices of First Lady Silvia Gašparovičová and ambassadors of three German speaking countries.
Participants from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, France and Belgium will provide information on the latest developments in the theory and practice of the subject of German as the language of experts in border regions. The composition of participants highlights the position of German in Europe when there is probably no other language area here that neighbours more diversified languages.
Cultural as well as linguistic differences within the German language in economy, tourism, inter-cultural communications and others will be among the topics of the conference.
