The organisers of the Gorilla Protests are set to meet Prime Minister Iveta Radičová and President Ivan Gašparovič in the coming days, the TASR newswire reported on Wednesday, February 8, citing protest organiser Alena Krempaská.
According to Government Office spokesperson Ľubica Pilzová, the meeting with the premier was initiated by Radičová herself and is due to take place prior to the Gorilla III protest planned for Friday, February 10. The purpose of the meetings, according to Krempaská, is to formally submit the demands voiced at the previous protests. "The initial aim of the protest, to demand a thorough investigation of the Gorilla case soon, ... expanded," explained Krempaská, adding that the full extent of people's disillusionment with politicians from all sides of the political spectrum has been shown in the protests.
Krempaská went on to claim that the planned meetings indicate the seriousness of the situation in the country. The protests, which began in Bratislava on Friday, January 27, have since spread nationwide.
