Government: 2008 Olympic Team to cost nearly Sk120 mil

According to a proposal due to be discussed by the Government on September 12, the costs of preparation, qualification and participation of the Slovak team at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing, China in 2008 will reach almost Sk120 million (€3.5 million).

The Slovak Olympic Committee and Slovak Paralympic Committee will contribute Sk8.5 million and Sk10 million, respectively, to the budget. The biggest individual part of the budget will be spent on awards for successful competitors (planned at Sk16 million). The transport costs are estimated at Sk12 million, while uniforms will cost Sk11 million.

The Slovak Olympic team will have 105 members, including 60 competitors. There will be 66 members of the paralympic team, of which 36 will compete in the games. The proposal counts on Slovaks winning between five and six medals. Those winning individual gold medals will be awarded Sk1 million each, while those winning gold in a team competition will receive Sk400,000 each. TASR
