The government, at its session on Wednesday, April 20, approved an ongoing National Programme of Reforms that is due to remain in place until the middle of 2014, the TASR newswire reported. The document introduces a package of measures aimed at reviving the Slovak economy and improving living standards. Gradual compliance with the objectives set forth in the EU's Europe 2020 programme is also addressed.
The national goals include boosting the employment rate among people aged 20-64 to above 72 percent while bringing the long-term jobless rate below 3 percent. The government also committed itself to improving business conditions to a level that will position the country among the top 15 countries in the World Bank's 'Doing Business' ranking by 2020. In addition, the programme also includes vows such as suppressing the occurrence of corruption and favouritism practices. Meanwhile, a total of 170,000 people ought to be taken out of poverty by 2020, according to the document.
