THE PARTIES of the government coalition and the Democratic Party (DS) have secretly distributed amongst themselves the top posts in the state's 46 labour offices, according to the Pravda daily.

Although the DS is not a cabinet party, it is led by Labour Minister Ľudovít Kaník.

According to Pravda, most of the heads of the district labour offices are either members of the ruling parties, their sympathisers, or otherwise closely related to them.

Ivan Šimko, the former deputy-chairman of the ruling Slovak Democratic and Christian Union said he was "convinced that this [allotment of posts] was based on political agreements".

According to the Labour Ministry, however, the posts were filled through standard job competitions.
