The Slovak government agreed to put back by four months a mid-October deadline for its private partner in the joint D1 motorway project to secure its part of the funding. This move on Wednesday, September 22, came at the request of Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny, who told the TASR newswire that the global financial crisis and liquidity problems were the reasons.
Comprised of French company Bouygues Travaux Publics, Doprastav of Bratislava and Žilina's Váhostav, the consortium that won the tender to build sections of the D1 motorway is now expected to secure all the finances required by February 15, 2010. According to Vážny, the government is considering cancelling the public-private partnership (PPP) contract with the consortium if it fails to secure the funding by the new deadline.
