Meanwhile, Štefan Sarkozy resigned from his post as a senior official of the Office of the Government Proxy for the Roma on July 20, Iveta Duchoňová from that office told the TASR newswire. Pollák accepted Sarkozy's resignation even though he didn't agree with his reasoning.

"It's important for me to resolve the situation in Malacky without emotion ... I've been interested from the very beginning in finding a solution that will not only help all those involved, but will also be acceptable to all parties," said Sarkozy, who is Roma and had been commissioned to act as coordinator of efforts to tackle the problem concerning Roma residents in Malacky.

Civil activist Alojz Hlina earlier this week called on Prime Minister Iveta Radičová to dismiss Sarkozy over his public claim that the white inhabitant of Malacky, Oskar Dobrovodský, is to blame for the harassment he has encountered from his Roma neighbours.
