Slovakia is ready to provide assistance to disaster-hit Japan, including makeshift accommodation facilities, mobile power generators, sludge pumps to clear flooded areas, blankets and other items, states a document drawn up by the Interior Ministry that was discussed by the government at a session on Wednesday, March 16.
The material is stored at state reserve facilities in Limbach near Bratislava, and in Veľký Šariš (Prešov Region). The equipment will be dispatched within 24 hours of the EU's Monitoring and Information Centre (MIC) issuing a call to that effect, the TASR newswire reported.
A rescue team has also been set up, the document states, with 16 experts from firefighting squads who are trained to find trapped people, eight police officers with dogs trained for the same purpose, eight divers, six doctors and one veterinary surgeon.
