Slovakia is set to be directly represented in the World Bank Group (WBG) for the first time since 1993, according to a draft agreement on forming a long-term constituency in the World Bank Group that was approved by the government August 27.
Currently, Slovakia belongs to the so-called Belgian constituency within the WBG, but it has no representatives of its own in the group, the TASR newswire wrote. According to the draft agreement, the country will have direct representation through an official who will serve as an advisor to the executive director of the constituency for a period of seven years.
The World Bank Group aims to eliminate poverty and secure long-term sustainable development in line with the UN Millennium Development Goals by means of offering loans, advice and customised resources to developing countries and countries in transition.
