Graduation exams start today at secondary schools

Graduation or leaving exams started on March 17 at all the Slovak secondary schools. They have always been perceived as the ‘test of maturity’ and that is why their official name in Slovak is maturitné skúšky - maturity exams. This year, there are about 61,700 students taking these exams in Slovakia. The written part of the exams started with tests in the Slovak language and literature in the morning of March 17. In the afternoon students are writing essays on their choice of four topics taken from one envelope that was chosen by chance and then announced by the Education Minister Jan Mikolaj in a live broadcast on the public service Slovak radio, the SITA newswire reported.
