Jaslovské Bohunice - Activists of the environmental protection group Greenpeace had their planned protest at Slovakia's controversial Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear power plant foiled when local police were tipped off to their 7:00 gathering on the plant's premises on September 27. Extra security was deployed around the plant and the protesters were not allowed within 20 kilometres of the facility.
Police set up road blocks and questioned all visitors and plant workers before granting entrance. Greenpeace had organised the protest in light of mounting international pressure, in particular by neighbouring, nuclear-free Austria, to shut down the Russian-designed plant.
