Justice Minister Štefan Harabin has proposed an amendment to the
Criminal Code that would allow companies, and not just their representatives, to be punished for criminal acts.
The amendmetn ahs been submitted for interdepartmental review Hospodárske Noviny wrote on September 11.
The punishment could either be the seizure of assets, or a fine of up to Sk500 million. It would not be necessary to investigate who specifically had committed the crime.
Businesses are protesting against the draft amendment.
Former justice minister Daniel Lipšic wanted to punish companies, as well. He even suggested liquidation of the company as the highest punishment. However, his proposal was unsuccessful.
