Harmonised inflation at -0.2 percent in August

THE ANNUAL inflation rate measured by the harmonised index of consumer prices stood at -0.2 percent in August. The average annual inflation rate, expressed by an increase in the average annual harmonised index of consumer prices for the last 12 months in comparison with the average for the preceding 12 months, reached 0.1 percent in August, the Statistics Office informed on September 17.

The month-on-month harmonised index of consumer prices was influenced mainly by a decrease in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages by -0.17 percentage points, clothing and footwear by -0.03 percentage points, recreation and culture by -0.02 percentage points, and miscellaneous goods and services and transport by -0.01 percentage points each.

On the other hand, prices rose in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, health, housing, water, electricity and other fuels and furnishings, household equipment and routine home maintenance by 0.01 percentage points each, according to ŠÚ.
