Jozef Šátek is no longer the head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Interior Minister Vladimír Palko unexpectedly recalled Šátek January 18, reported the daily SME.
According to Palko, Šátek has failed in his responsibilities and created conflicts in the workplace.
Police vice-president Jaroslav Spišiak said that he had no problem with Šátek. However, Šátek recently proposed that the finance police, which operate under Spišiak, be moved under his department’s administration.
Šátek's recall has shocked several politicians, but many are pleased by the move.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau, formed in 2004 through the transformation of the Police Special Tasks Department, handles cases brought by the special prosecutor and special court.
"No employee of our office need be ashamed of what we have achieved," Šátek said.
