The new management of Slovakia’s National Labour Inspectorate (NIP) on Monday, December 6, accused the former management of wasting public finances, the TASR newswire wrote.
According to the new NIP head, Jana Popovičová, the inspectorate ordered 50,000 information brochures and 10,000 CDs in 2009. The brochures cost €64,000 but most of them are still being stored at NIP. The former management did not arrange to have them distributed and the new management does not see any point in using them.
"Mismanagement of finances was found in language courses, the reconstruction of a ministerial flat... the paying of bonuses of almost Sk3 million (€99,600) to chief inspectors. I think that during a crisis this was genuine mismanagement," said Popovičová to TASR, adding that NIP's legal department is already looking into the possibility of taking legal action.
According to former NIP head Andrej Gmitter, Popovičová is using these accusations to cover up recently-published complaints concerning intimidation, bullying and the illegal sacking of NIP experts. He noted that former employees have filed criminal complaints against what they view as illegal procedures used by the new management.
