PRIVATE health insurance companies have rejected Health Minister Ivan Valentovič's plan for cutting beds in hospitals.

"The minister wants to shut down departments and hospitals without proving that this measure will lead to higher quality and effectiveness," the president of the Association of Health Insurers, Igor Dorčák, said on March 20.

He thinks that the Health Ministry has no clear criteria for how health insurance companies should reduce the number of beds. The current proposal lacks a proper analysis of the population's needs and the accessibility of healthcare, and also an evaluation of effectiveness and quality, he said.
