ONE of the priorities of the Public Health Office (ÚVZ) for the year 2005 is the adoption of a law on public health.
According to the SITA news agency, the ambition of ÚVZ specialists is to increase the average life expectancy in Slovakia to the European Union level.
Life expectancy for women and men in Slovakia is 78 and 70 while in the EU on average it is 82 and 75, respectively.
The draft bill on public health says that new construction and territorial planning must take into account public health considerations.
Family houses and apartment buildings should be built on land around which trees can be planted.
In the workplace, employers will have to provide conditions for employees to support and develop their health.
Other issues that the bill provides for include drinking water and its supply, the introduction of food products onto the market and food ingredients.
If approved, the new law should come into force next year.
