Recent high temperatures have claimed another life. On Tuesday, August 21, 134 heat-related emergency callouts were recorded, with one case turning out to be fatal.
“A woman collapsed in a parking lot in Rimavksá Sobota, and was resuscitated, but we failed to save her,” spokesman of the Slovak Operation Centre of the Emergency Rescue Service (OSZZS) Boris Chmel informed the TASR newswire.
A bout of high temperatures last month proved fatal for a Bratislava bus driver and a Košice woman.
“On Tuesday, 92 people had to be hospitalised; most collapses were recorded in Prešov Region, and the least in Bratislava Region,” Chmel specified.
The warm weather is forecast to continue, especially in the south of Slovakia. People should take care to drink enough – at least 3 litres of liquids per day – and ill and elderly people are being advised to avoid physically demanding activities.
