THE ETHNIC Hungarian student who claimed to have been beaten up by two Slovak extremists in Nitra on August 25 has filed another four complaints against a decision by the police to drop their investigation of the incident.
Counsel representing Hedviga Malinová submitted another 49 pages to the Nitra District Prosecutor’s Office, in addition to the 29-page complaint submitted the week before.
A spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office, Jaroslav Maček, said the new documentation meant that the office might not release a decision on the matter within two weeks as earlier promised.
The police announced on September 11 they had shelved the assault case because their investigation had led them to believe Malinová invented the story. They presented a variety of evidence which appeared to refute her charges and her account of the incident.
The alleged beating was one of the main events cited by Hungarian politicians and international diplomats in claiming a rise in tensions in August between Slovakia and Hungary due to the presence of the far-right Slovak National Party in the Slovak ruling coalition.
