The driver of a BMW sedan who left the scene of an accident on November 23 in which two men were killed, and who had been driving without a license and with a previous criminal conviction, remains at liberty, police said.
While police from the Nitra region, where the accident occurred, said it was up to state prosecutors to decide whether the man should be remanded in custody, other legal experts expressed dismay that the man, the son of a local mayor, had not faced a harsher fate.
