AFTER last year's successes in the field of foreign integration, Slovakia should focus on domestic integration and societal values in 2005, Speaker of Parliament and the chairman of the ruling Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) Pavol Hrušovský said at a January 11 meeting with representatives of diplomatic corps, church officials and municipal authorities.

"Without a clear vision in ethics, morals and values, no country can be successful for long. Mere economic prosperity cannot be the main goal of our society," he said.

According to the TASR news agency, Hrušovský appealed to the representatives of the church to help deepen moral awareness as a cornerstone of society.

According to Hrušovský, in 2004, Slovakia achieved its greatest successes since its establishment in 1993. "Foreign policy, the economy, employment, investments, police activities, sports - in all of these areas there were many encouraging announcements and achievements," he said.
