At least 350 police officers took part in a series of night-time raids against organised crime groups operating in Bratislava Region during the early hours of November 15. The operation, code-named Eden, was the biggest in the history of independent Slovakia, and resulted in 20 people being arrested and 23 people being charged, the SITA newswire reported.
“Though there were several attempts by those arrested to escape during the operation, we succeeded in catching everybody we wanted,” said Interior Minister Daniel Lipšic, as quoted by SITA, adding that the success of the operation was supported by the fact that no information about it had leaked, even though it had been planned for some time.
Lipšic refused to go into further details but promised to release more information by the end of the week.
During the operation the police arrested Juraj O., also known as Piťo, widely regarded to be the boss of a major organised crime group in Bratislava. He was charged with illegal possession of weapons, the Sme daily reported.
