Hungarian minority vote helped Schuster win first round

About 91 percent of electorate of the Party of the Hungarian Coalition (SMK) voted for the joint presidential candidate of the governing coalition, Rudolf Schuster, who courted Hungarian minority voters by visiting Hungarian regions and addressing the minority the their own tongue.

The huge majority for Schuster means that the Hungarian minority will have a considerable effect on who will be elected president, MVK polling agency director Pavol Haulik told Slovak Television (STV), adding that "eastern and southern Slovakia were the pivotal regions in the first round of presidential elections in Slovakia held on Saturday."
