An article in the Sme daily on September 27 reported that the Speaker of Parliament in Hungary, Katalin Szili, had cancelled an official visit to Slovakia in protest of the resolution on the post-war Beneš Decrees passed by the Slovak parliament last week.
According to the article, Szili’s refusal to visit Slovakia is her way of expressing solidarity with the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) and its leader, Pál Csáky.
Political scientist László Öllös said the decision is a clear signal that diplomatic relations between Slovakia and Hungary have worsened.
The Foreign Ministry declined to comment. SITA
