THE SENIOR body of the HZDS opposition party, its national council, on October 12 voted against calling an extraordinary party congress to debate the future of HZDS leader Vladimír Mečiar following the party's worst-ever election result last month.
The congress had been expected to be scheduled for December after three regional party branches called for it, but debate on Mečiar's future has now been put off until a regular meeting in June 2003.
